A Romantic Wedding in the Cotswolds
Emily and Bill met on a chance night out in Nuneaton. They caught each other’s eye on the dance floor and exchanged numbers. The next day they met for a pot of tea in a fancy hotel!
Emily told us how close she was to her dad. She had always imagined when she was proposed to, her fiancé would sit down with her dad and ask for his blessing and they would shake hands. When her dad passed away in 2014, she felt this was taken away from her. When Bill proposed, she thought she was going to the church for a rehearsal for her sister’s wedding. In fact, Bill took her to her dad’s grave, got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. It was so special.
The Big Day
Emily and Bill were married at Hyde House, an idyllic barn wedding location in the Cotswolds. The couple love the outdoors and Hyde House has the most amazing outside space with views of the fields. They stayed in the Cotswolds for a ‘mini-moon’ straight after the wedding which they loved.
As her dad wasn’t there to share their special day, Emily’s brother took on the role of ‘Father of the Bride.’ They arrived at the church in his Landrover, his pride and joy, which they decorated for the wedding together.
“It’s actually so surreal, all the build-up and preparation, the time and effort that goes into everything, it doesn’t seem real when it comes to the day. It was the most special day and I just felt so lovely. Knowing everyone had come together to celebrate with us, wearing the most important dress I will ever wear and knowing I looked my best wearing it. My husband looked so handsome in his suit. Every element of the day was just amazing, if I could do it again tomorrow, I wouldn’t hesitate.”
Emily’s best memory of the day was the moment she stood waiting to walk into the ceremony room.
“My arm was linked with my brother and we stood waiting for a few minutes. I heard my song come on, the doors to the barn opened and we walked down the aisle. Seeing Bill looking back at me made me teary eyed, it was just as special as I had imagined it.”
Emily’s Dress Me Pretty Experience
“My sister found her dress with Dress Me Pretty. It was the second shop we visited and after a not-so-great experience in the first shop, I was feeling a little disheartened and quite honestly very picky in terms of what I wanted. I felt less hopeful I was going to find it.
Jodie greeted us and was so welcoming. She had researched our venue after the initial phone call and took great interest in our wedding, talking about the venue style, the weather in October, colour themes etc. It really meant a lot that she had done this, and I felt that she was able to pick out dresses based on her conversations with me.
Jodie walked around the shop with me and picked out a handful of dresses, asking me what I thought before hanging them in the dressing room. I was hesitant at first to say ‘this is the one’ as I wanted to be sure that all the others were ruled out, so I tried the rest on. On doing this I realised the others just didn’t feel right and so I went back to my dress.
Jodie was so complimentary of my figure, this really helped to boost my confidence and made me feel really secial. I even got a little goodie bag as a Congratulations for finding my dress.
When I returned to collect my dress, Amy was just as complimentary. She took the time to explain how to look after my dress. She recognised my mum and talked about when my sister bought her dress and her memory of this which was so nice, especially for my mum.”
Emily wore our Klein dress by Essence of Australia. She told us how beautiful she felt.
“My dress was so flattering, it sat so nicely on my hips and hugged my figure perfectly. I felt amazing wearing it.
People on the day and since have said they have never seen a dress like it and didn’t expect my dress to be like that. It gave me even more confidence knowing that although it would not be my usual choice, it still looked good and I stood out.”
Emily’s advice for Brides-to-Be
Just remember the day is about you and your partner. Try not to worry about other family members requests, like who’s sitting where, who you have invited, who is wearing what and who has been asked to take on what role. These things are your choice as it is your wedding.
